In 1997, I was 7 years old, and just started first grade in Fagaras, my sweet hometown, when my family decided to I immigrate to the United States. I felt heartbroken when I had to say goodbye and leave behind my good friends. I felt lost and lonely when I arrived in US. With no friends and no relatives life was a little rough at the beginning. Years after my arrival in US, I realized how blessed I am for having the opportunity to live and study in one of the world’s most democratic countries. I am proud of who I am…Romanian just as much as American, and American just as much as Romanian. I am also proud of what I became: disciplined and brave, strong and fearless.

The time passed by very fast, and here I am now, high school senior ready to graduate. We all know that the value of a college education has continued to increase over the last two decades; we all want to be doctors, lawyers, or engineers… all these professions would fit the “ideal” lifestyle that most people like to imagine, but I, on the other hand have something completely different in mind because my future career path leans towards the dental field. After I graduate from high school, I would like to go to St. Petersburg College for the first two years, and then move to University of Florida College of Dentistry.

The University Of Florida- College Of Dentistry is renowned for its outstanding educational programs, as well as for its excellence in the art and science of dentistry through teaching, research, and service. One of the most important reasons why I chose this career for myself is because I have the vision that sometime in the future I will travel to different countries and help people in need; people who can not afford to pay for healthcare. My dream is to open my own clinic. My mother always told me that when I am settled and self-sufficient to try to help the poor.

I am not the best student in high school, but I am not the worst either. I know how to study hard and to relax when is the case. I am a regular student, very dedicated and disciplined who worked hard until now, and will continue to work just as hard going forward. To be a college graduate will be a major accomplishment in my life and in my family’s life. This will be my way to say thank you to my parents, who raised me into whom I am today. I learned from them to respect and appreciate hard work, and I will never forget the sacrifices they made to see my brother and I graduating from college. I will make sure to transmit the same sense of respect to my children, when the time will come because they need to understand, that education is the shortest road to success in life, as well as the foundation of lifelong projects. Besides, a college degree is also, the reward of many years of hard work, intense study, sacrifices, all contributing equally in shaping the character of the person behind the Diploma.

Even if I do not sing or play an instrument, my passion for sports never changed since I was little. While other girls were attending piano lessons or take dance classes, I was swimming between 1 and 3 hours per day. If my “talent” of swimming is not as convincing as throwing the buttons, I will bring with me a nice video-clip with a splashy presentation in the pool.

Why do I want to be Miss Romania USA? Why not? Each girl dreams about being a princess or a model, and I am no different. Miss Romania USA is a promising event for all Romanian girls, or descendents of Romanian families residing in USA. I am excited to see that we have a well organized – high class beauty contest. The crowned Miss Romania USA could play a major role in becoming the voice of those who can not represent themselves, could be a valuable ambassador, a well appreciated spoke-person for a region, or a country. I would like to be one of these people because it is in the human nature to reach new goals, always raise the standards and the level of expectation. I will be representing my state with pleasure and respect.
